Kibbutz Kfar Azza and Gaza Border Communities

Kibbutzim
Kibbutzim are collective farming communities in Israel built on values of cooperation, education, and shared living. Kfar Azza, located less than two miles from the Gaza Strip, was known for its quiet, close-knit life. Residents included farmers, teachers, artists, and peace advocates—many of whom supported humanitarian outreach, even across the border.
October 7

What Happened on October 7, 2023?
At 6:30 a.m., during a major Jewish holiday, Hamas launched a massive surprise attack: thousands of rockets, followed by over 3,000 terrorists breached Israel by land, air, and sea. Over 1,200 people were killed, and more than 250 hostages were taken—making it the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
Kfar Azza, home to just under 1,000 residents, lost 64 civilians and 18 were abducted. Many homes were burned, looted, and destroyed, leaving the community physically and emotionally shattered.
Who Are “The Surviving”?
“The Surviving” are the residents of Kfar Azza who lived through the attack and continue to endure its aftermath—displaced from their homes, coping with trauma, and struggling to rebuild. This project shines a light on their resilience, strength, and determination to one day return home.
